Important events and celebrations this month include:
1 Ramadan (probable start date)
Ramadan is the holiest period of the Islamic year. Muslims across the world will fast during the hours of daylight. Ramadan is a time for spiritual reflection, prayer, doing good deeds and spending time with family and friends. The fasting is intended to help teach Muslims self-discipline, self-restraint and generosity. It also reminds them of the suffering of the poor, who may rarely get to eat well.
3 Ganesh Chaturthi
A Hindu festival honouring the Birthday of Lord Ganesh, the elephant headed God of prosperity, prudence and success.
6-7 Rotherham Diversity Festival
Part of Rotherham Show, the Diversity Festival celebrates the many diverse communities in Rotherham, their history and heritage, and how they have helped to develop Rotherham as we know it today.
28 Lailat ul Qadr

29 Navaratri - Hindu
