Rotherham will be doing its bit to celebrate the nationwide Cultural Olympiad on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 September with artistic displays, film, music, demonstrations and dancing, live bands, literature, dance, choirs, poetry, historical walks, stalls, exhibitions and much more.
Through cultural and sports participation, audience development, cultural skills, capacity building, urban regeneration, tourism and social cohesion and international links, the Cultural Olympiad aims to ignite cutting edge collaborations and innovation between communities and enhance the learning, skills and personal development of young people by linking with our education programmes.
The Cultural Olympiad, which will be taking place in All Saints’ Square and around the town centre, will be giving Rotherham residents the opportunity to try something new and different, to encourage a real sense of community involvement, to think differently about the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and most importantly to demonstrate the creativity which flows through the borough.
There is still plenty of opportunity for you, or your group, to become involved with the Cultural Olympiad. For individuals and organisations who fit into the focus of Rotherham’s cultural identity, there will be performance areas around the town and market stalls available for use free of charge.
