The massive Mega Active programme, which is now in its third year, includes an amazing array of events for kids aged 18 months to 18 years featuring everything from inline roller hockey, basketball, golf, field hockey, athletics, theatre workshops, cheerleading and extreme sports.
Taking place from Aston to Wath, the events, many of which are at pocket-money prices, also include Tot Sport, for children aged 18 months – 5 years and Mega Active Ability, for children with a disability.
With partners including Stagecoach Theatre Arts School, Virtual Ice Inline, RUFC Community Sports Trust, Rotherham Hawks Basketball Club and the Peter Cowen Golf Academy, Mega Active features over a hundred individual sessions.
Organised by Rotherham MBC Sports Development team, who recently won the Council’s “Team of the Year” award, all the events are supervised by CRB checked coaches and session leaders and are fully safety-supervised.
Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure Services, Cllr Gerald Smith, said: “Mega Active has gone from strength-to-strength since it was launched three years ago. We now have the highest number of partner organisations and can offer a massive range of great activities.
“Each year we have thousands of free Mega Active brochures printed and we can’t keep hold of them they are so popular. This year 20,000 have been printed and they’re already going like hot cakes.
“It’s great that we can offer such innovative and fun events to keep kids safe and entertained during the summer.”
For the second year, Mega Active Ability for children with a disability will be offering Sports Festivals, including archery, rock climbing and football, Multi-Sport Camps, featuring racquet sports, cricket and Boccia, and Star:Track Athletics.
