    Relief for Treeton

    02/07/2008

Residents living in one part of a Rotherham village should soon enjoy a respite from through traffic thanks to the imminent opening of a new road.

Housing developers Jones Homes (Northern) Ltd. will shortly complete a link road through Treeton that will bring much needed relief to Front Street, a narrow road through the centre of the village that is not suited to modern traffic conditions but which has seen a big increase in traffic over the years.

The opening of High Hazel Road will take place ahead of the completion of the residential development in the village, known as Beaumont Park, which has seen over 380 homes being constructed in the last ten years - carried out in line with the masterplan for the area.

The new road, which links Well Lane to Wood Lane, was a condition imposed by the Council's Planning Board when the original application was approved in 1997.

The road is planned both to serve the new development as well as reducing traffic flows on Front Street

High Hazel Road has been designed to modern standards and is better able to cope with the through traffic that currently uses Front Street.

In anticipation of the new route and to improve road safety, the Council has already introduced speed reducing measures on Front Street.

The authority will also be altering the priorities at the Well Lane, Front Street and Station Road junction later this year in an effort to encourage use of the new route.
