Want to vote? Then fill in the form!

Want to vote in forthcoming elections? Then fill in the form!

It's that time of year again when households are required to give their details for Rotherham's electoral register and householders are being reminded that only people who are included in the register of electors are allowed to vote in elections.

During September every household across the Borough will receive a form showing who is registered there. Residents must check the form and confirm that it is correct, or if not, amend it to show any changes.

Rotherham’s Electoral Registration Officer is required by law to carry out this exercise every year in preparation for the new edition of the register of electors which is published on December 1, which must be kept up to date and accurate.

Those households where the electoral register details remain unchanged can opt for an easier option of re-registering by using the free 24 hour telephone or secure internet services if no changes are required.

Even if there are no changes to be made, you must respond using the telephone or internet service, or by signing and sending the form back.

It is not only your right to vote which will be affected if you do not register. The law entitles credit reference agencies to use the register for checking identity for credit applications. If you are not registered, it may affect your chances of obtaining credit, opening a bank account, or getting a mortgage.
