Rotherham Mayor
The Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham
About the Mayoralty
- The Mayor's full and proper title is "The Worshipful the Mayor of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough".
- The correct mode of address is Mr Mayor - or Madam Mayor.
- The Mayoralty is the most exalted position in the gift of a local authority, and members elected are rightly proud of its traditions and jealous to preserve its privileges that have been acquired through the years.
- The Mayor is recognised as being, in his or her own Borough, the official representative of the Crown, second only to the Lord Lieutenant of the County of South Yorkshire, David Moody of Barnsley.

About the Mayor
Councillor Pickering took up the role of Mayor at the annual meeting of Rotherham Borough Council at Rotherham Town Hall on Friday, May 18, 2012.
"Making a difference for youngsters and local people" will be the main focus for Dave and Sue Pickering during their year of office as Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham
The couple have both lived in the borough all their lives and aim to do what they can do for the Rotherham population - its young people in particular.
That is why the couple, who live in East Herringthorpe, have chosen locally-based charities to benefit from their year of office, which they are thoroughly looking forward to.
Dave was born in the Rotherham area - in Herringthorpe - and even now still lives in East Herringthorpe - part of the Valley Ward. "I have felt no desire to move from this area as we are surrounded by nice people and good neighbours," he said. "And it is a real privilege to work with the people on my doorstep"
Dave has represented Valley Ward since 2004. He was first elected onto the authority in 2002 and served for two years representing Thorpe Hesley and Keppel Ward.
However, he was no stranger to local government as he first became a Dalton Parish Councillor in 1995. He is still a parish Councillor and is also a governor at three local schools. Since 2007 he has been the chair of the Rotherham Planning Board, after being the vice-chairman for 3 years. He is also a member of the Improving Places Commission along with being a member of the authority's Fostering Panel and is an advisor to the Cabinet Member for Town Centres, Economic Growth and Prosperity.
"We will do our very best to be good first citizens and part of our pledge is that if we can offer practical and tangible help to anyone or any group that makes a difference to their lives then we will have tried to make a difference in our own small way."
