Policy and Research
The Policy and Research Team provides the following corporate function for the Council:
Policy
- Developing the Corporate Plan and Policy Framework; developing and aligning policy to the priorities of the Local Strategic Partnership and the Council
- Providing policy briefings, parliamentary and legislation analysis and policy reviews with the Council
- Providing support to the LSP in relation to the Community Strategy and leading on the development and delivery of cross-cutting policy agendas such as Closing the Gap and Health and Well Being
- Providing expert advice and guidance to Members, senior officers and partner agencies on specified areas of policy
- Developing the Council's international partnerships in line with the International Links policy, to ensure that as many people as possible can benefit from the links
- Maximising funding into the borough to add value to the delivery of the Community Strategy and Corporate Plan priorities.
Research
- Understand the social and economic environment in which the Council is operating as a basis for effective strategy and vision for the well-being of the borough
- Understand the problems and needs of local communities as a basis for effective policies and services
- Consider the effectiveness of services or activities on well-being
Provide the evidence base to assist councillors and senior managers in determining priorities
