Biological Records Centre

The Council's Biological Records Centre collects wildlife records and stores them in a computerised databank.

Over the years, the efforts of many skilled naturalists have resulted in over 10,000 species, subspecies and hybrid plants and animals being recorded in Rotherham. This is about 25% of the UK total, excluding marine and unicellular organisms, in 0.01% of the UK land area.

What can you do?

The conservation of our wildlife heritage involves many organisations, both local and national government and voluntary.

There are local organisations and societies which can cater for your interest in local wildlife.

If you would like to contribute information on Rotherham's wildlife then contact the Council's Biological Records Officer.
