Biodiversity Computer Records
Rotherham Biological Records Centre stores wildlife records in the Recorder database, used by records centres throughout Britain. Over 1,020,000 records of wild plants and animals in Rotherham have been computerised since 1988, at a rate of about 1,000 per week.
The records are from all parts of the borough. They have been collected by naturalists living in Rotherham and visiting from outside. In terms of records per hectare, this means that Rotherham is probably the best-recorded place in Britain!
Most of the computerised records are from the last 15 years, though there are records stretching back into prehistory. You can see how modern records relate to older ones in the Data Record.
The records reflect the interests of Rotherham's naturalists, with birds being the most popular, followed by flowering plants.
