Who to contact when moving house
To help you to make your move as 'stress free' as possible we have prepared a list of organisations and people that you may wish to contact.
- The Post Office will redirect mail from your old home to your new home for a small charge. Telephone 0845 7223344 for details.
- Gas Supplier - Go to Connecting to gas, water & electricity.
- Electricity Supplier - Go to Connecting to gas, water & electricity
- Water Supplier - Go to Connecting to gas, water & electricity.
- Telephone & Mobile Telephone Company
- Council Tax - they need to know the date of your change of address. Telephone 01709 336006.
- Benefit Agency - if you receive Income Support, a state pension or any other benefit. Telephone 01709 722222
- Housing Benefit - if you are entitled to Housing Benefit you will need to stop any benefit being paid on your old address and claim at your new address. Telephone 01709 336006, or collect a form from your Neighbourhood Office
- TV Licensing - Telephone 0870 5763763 for changes of address or for new licenses
- Satellite or Cable TV company
- Home Contents Insurance - you will need to inform your insurers of your change of address. The Council operates a home contents insurance scheme. Telephone 01709 823780 or contact your local Neighbourhood Office.
- Schools - to find out about schools in your new area telephone the Education Department on 01709 822562
