Supporting People
What is Supporting People?
The Supporting People programme offers vulnerable people the opportunity to improve their quality of life by providing a stable environment which enables greater independence. It delivers high quality and strategically planned housing-related support services which are cost effective, reliable and complement existing care services.
Supporting People is a working partnership of local government, service users and support agencies.
What does it cover?
The Supporting People programme covers only housing related support services. These services aim to:
- Develop an indivdiual's capacity to live independently or sustain their capacity to do so
- Help to expand the tenancy choices for people. This includes people who might be in care or in danger of becoming homeless
- Provide immediate refuge
It does not cover care, personal support or housing management.
Currently, the programme funds support services for the groups:-
- Older people with support needs
- Offenders or people at risk of offending
- People with drug and/or alcohol problems
- People with a physical or sensory disability
- People with HIV/AIDS
- People with learning disabilities
- People with mental health needs
- Refugees
- Single homeless people with support needs
- Teenage parents
- Women fleeing domestic violence
- Young people at risk
