Supporting People

What is Supporting People?

The Supporting People programme offers vulnerable people the opportunity to improve their quality of life by providing a stable environment which enables greater independence. It delivers high quality and strategically planned housing-related support services which are cost effective, reliable and complement existing care services.

Supporting People is a working partnership of local government, service users and support agencies.

What does it cover?

The Supporting People programme covers only housing related support services. These services aim to:

  • Develop an indivdiual's capacity to live independently or sustain their capacity to do so
  • Help to expand the tenancy choices for people.  This includes people who might be in care or in danger of becoming homeless
  • Provide immediate refuge

It does not cover care, personal support or housing management.

Currently, the programme funds support services for the groups:-

  • Older people with support needs
  • Offenders or people at risk of offending
  • People with drug and/or alcohol problems
  • People with a physical or sensory disability
  • People with HIV/AIDS
