Shared Ownership

Affordable Housing

Nationally there is a crisis of the supply of sufficient homes to meet the needs of our population. This is most acute in relation to demand and supply of affordable housing.

Affordable housing is aimed at assisting households who are in housing need and unable to afford market housing. Affordable housing can either be social rented housing or intermediate housing (low cost home ownership).

Affordable Housing Information

In order to support the continued delivery of new affordable homes the Council will:

  • Update and inform housing need and demand information, in particular in relation to particular need and rural housing
  • Support private sector developers to access government initiatives to unlock stalled developments
  • Ensure delivery is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable with good design
  • Utilise public assets and resources to maximise opportunity
  • Continue to work in partnership with Registered Providers to reduce social housing fraud and illegal subletting of social rented housing
  • Ensure the best use of existing housing stock.
