Council housing - rents

Your rent

We are careful when deciding how to use the rent you pay. Your rent pays for the repairs and maintenance to your home such as replacing windows, new kitchen doors, and the housing management services we provide.

Whoever signed your tenancy agreement is responsible for paying the rent for your home. The rent is due on or before the Monday of each week. If you pay your rent monthly please pay one month in advance.

Falling behind

Falling behind with your rent: Don't risk losing your home. What to do if you find yourself falling behind with your rent.

Rent rises

At the beginning of your tenancy we tell you how much your rent is in your tenancy agreement

Your landlord, Rotherham Borough Council, is responsible for setting your rent. Rent is normally changed once a year, in April.

The Council will never change your rent without telling you about it in writing at least four weeks in advance.

Service charges

Many of the homes we maintain receive extra services not included in the rent. You may have to pay a service charge if your home gets services such as a Warden. If you need to pay a service charge it will say so in your tenancy agreement.

Similarly, if you are a leaseholder and you do not pay rent, you may also pay a service charge.
