Building Control Advice and Guidance
What happens when my project is complete?
You should contact us before your builder has left the site or your business relationship with your builder has finished so we can carry out a completion inspection.
Any remedial work required will be your responsibility to complete.
A completion certificate will only be issued where the relevant stages of work have been notified to the council, together with notice of any other relevant area of work that may not be visible at the time a statutory inspection is carried out, and the work has been inspected by a building control officer and found to be satisfactory.
Failure to have the work inspected could mean the council is unable to issue a completion certificate.
If you're selling your house, and you do not have a completion certificate this may delay the sale. Also, if the completion inspection has not been carried out it will be declared as an outstanding matter on any legal search carried out by your purchasers' solicitors.
