Early Years

Early Years consultation - FAQs

What are we consulting about?

In December 2010 the government announced the introduction of the Early Intervention Grant. This grant is intended to provide enough money to maintain a network of children's centres so they are accessible to all, and can support families in the greatest need. As the lead and accountable body for Children's Centres the Council is responsible for their strategic planning and overall management. The Department for Education is committed to working with local councils to increase the involvement of voluntary and community sector organisations within children's centres.

Why are we consulting with you?

It is important to us as a Local Authority that we develop children's centres in partnership with parents, carers, partner service providers, and local communities. With this in mind it is important to us that we hear your views on the proposals.

What is the role of a children's centre?

The key role of our children's centres is to make a difference to children and families by helping parents find support and practical help to give their children the best start in life. Linking childcare to early education and parent support services in the home and on site and offering children and families flexible and high quality services including:

       Play and learning services
       Child and family health services
       Family support and outreach services
       Childcare services
       Training and employment opportunities
