Text Relay
Text Relay (sometimes called Typetalk)
Communication with customers over the telephone who have different needs.
Text Relay connects people using a textphone, sometimes called a minicom, with people using a telephone or another textphone. It lets deaf, hard of hearing and speech impaired people stay in touch with friends and family, and call businesses over the telephone.
Users of textphones can now contact any department or individual member of staff by simply using the 18001 prefix before the number of the department or person you would like to speak to. An operator automatically joins the conversation and provides a link between the textphone user and the hearing person.
Operators understand the needs of deaf and speech-impaired people and provide a discreet and confidential service. Further details can be found on the Text Relay website.
If you're making a call from a textphone, Text Relay will take care of your call, so you can communicate with the person you're calling. Our Customer Contact Centre and Repairs can be accessed by prefixing the Contact Centre number with 18001 e.g. 18001 0300 100 2010 or 18001 01709 336009
If you're making a call from a telephone and you think the person you're calling may answer the call using a textphone, Text Relay will allow you to communicate. Dial 18002 and then the number of the person you are calling with the area code e.g. 18002 01709 822200.
