Forgemasters Tip
The former Forgemasters Tip is an important site in Rotherham for nature conservation and informal countryside recreation and has potential for development as an educational resource for local schools.
The site's nature conservation interest is derived from the range of habitats present which grade from ponds and wetland areas to dry grassland and scrub and from the intricate mosaics that are formed where the habitats mix. The nature conservation value of the site has been acknowledged through its designation as a Local Wildlife Site (LWS).
Management Plan Consultation
The Council is preparing a management plan for the Forgemasters Tip site in Aston cum Aughton. It is important to us that local residents and people who use the site are aware of how we are proposing to manage it and have the opportunity to comment on our plans and be involved in the site.
The management plan is being developed, in consultation with local stakeholders, to focus future management and resources to ensure that the site's and stakeholders' interests are maintained and enhanced where possible.
Further to the initial consultation held December 2010 to January 2011 a summary of responses received has been prepared and a Final Draft version of the management plan, incorporating additions and changes, is now available to view. Work programmes will now be prepared and added to the Final Draft document to produce the final Management Plan.
