Data protection and freedom of information

Information

The Data Protection Act 1998 and other laws (such as Human Rights Act, the Law of Confidence, etc.) require the proper handling of personal information. The policy spells out our commitment to everyone whose personal information is used by the Council.

The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act aims to allow wider access to information held by public bodies. This includes councils, police forces and schools, as well as other authorities listed in the Act.

The first part of the Act requires the Council to maintain a Publication Scheme listing information available to the public. Where the information is not available via the website, the Publication Scheme gives details of how to obtain the information.
