Licensing Enforcement

Licensing enforcement within the Community Protection Unit provides a pro-active and reactive function carried out on behalf of the Licensing Authority.

Officers work regularly with the other Responsible Authorities such as the Police, Fire Service, Health & Safety, Planning and Environmental Health Officers to name a few when undertaking visits or inspections.  Other agencies and organisations that we also work with include VOSA, Gambling Commission, Border Agency and SIA.  Officers from Rotherham with enforcement officers from the surrounding authorities also work together on enforcement initiatives such as illegal plying for hire and unlicensed taxis collecting at airports.

The pro-active aspect of licensing enforcement involves at least one annual inspection visit to all premises licensed for the supply and sale of alcohol, regulated entertainment and late night refreshment. Other licensed premises that are visited and checked for the Licensing Authority can range from Adult Entertainment Outlets to Scrap Metal Dealers.

The Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1976, is used to enforce the Hackney, Private Hire Vehicles and Operator's industry. This enforcement function has expanded to deal with the stretch limousine hire businesses that are also supplying alcohol with their services.
