Early Years

A Sure Start Children's Centre is somewhere where families with children under 5 years can go to access a range of services and information. Services will be delivered in one building, or at a variety of venues in a local area.

Sure Start Children's Centres will work in partnership with parents and service providers to deliver child-friendly, easily accessible, inclusive services that respond to the needs of local families, helping children to reach their full potential.

Each Sure Start Children's Centre will also have the services of a qualified Early Years teacher, who will work alongside early years professionals to ensure all children have access to quality early learning experiences, whether at school or nursery.  There are also Family Support Workers and health professionals either based at or visit the centre.

The package of services vary between centres but will cover the following:

• Early Education and Childcare (This could be provided by the centre, childminders, other daycare providers, out of school clubs or extended schools.) 
• Support for you and your family       
• Child and family health services 
• Information for parents and carers
• Information about training and employment

Some examples of services include family learning, carer and toddler groups, dads groups, help to stop smoking, breast feeding support, creche provision, job seeking advice, stay and play sessions, baby massage and many more. Contact each centre for details.

The Families Information Service work in close partnership with Sure Start Children's Centres.  There are trained members of staff at the centres who can provide you with a tailored search of all childcare within the local area giving you all the options available.

Easy to use Information Points are available in Sure Start Children's Centres.  You can use the Information Points to search for childcare, give you information on activities in Rotherham, health information such as "find a GP" and NHS direct and a link to the Job Centre Plus website so that you are able to access vacancies as you would in the Job Centre.
