Free travel for carers

If you are entitled to a Disabled Persons Pass, you may also qualify for a 'with carer' pass if you receive:

  • High rate care component of Disability Living Allowance
  • High rate Attendance Allowance
  • Enhanced rate daily living component of Personal Independence Payment

The 'with carer' pass means that a carer travelling with you on public transport can travel for free also.

The carer must travel at the same time as you, but it does not have to be the same carer each time. Your carer also does not have to be a professional carer or support worker - they could be a friend or relative.

If you want to apply for a 'with carer' pass, please provide evidence that you meet the qualifying conditions with you when obtaining your letter of entitlement from the Council. You must send us a copy of the letter from the Department of Work and Pensions which confirms the type and level of benefit you are getting. The entitlement must be for a period of at least 12 months.

You can also apply for a 'with carer' pass if you already have a Disabled Persons Pass. Please bring evidence that you meet the qualifying conditions to one of our Neighbourhood Hubs so that a letter of entitlement can be issued.
