A guide to school attendance requirements

  1. A guide to school attendance requirements (You are here)
  2. Penalties for unauthorised absences
  3. Education welfare

The Council must make sure that your school age child receives a suitable full-time education. This can either be by regular attendance at school or other means, such as you educating your child at home.

All schools and academies monitor the attendance of their pupils.  If attendance levels are a concern, schools and academies will consider making a referral to the Education Welfare Service.

All our schools and academies have their own attendance policy, which details absence procedures and is available on request.  This includes information on holidays during term-time.

Legal action can be taken if it is considered that a parent or carer is not fulfilling their responsibility to ensure their child is receiving a full time education.
