Starting school

Local Authorities coordinate the admissions process for all types of state school.

You must apply for a school place and it is important that you apply by the deadline, or you may jeopardise your chance of getting a place at your preferred school.

Assessing a school

Schools are regularly inspected and the reports produced following their inspection visits are available from the Ofsted website. The Department of Children, Schools and Families offers access to the Rotherham primary and secondary school league tables. This includes a page about each school detailing its performance.

Choosing a school

The Directgov site will help you to choose a school in your preferred location. This site also links to the school's test results and Ofsted reports.

The Rotherham Schools Directory provides you with information about schools specifically within the Rotherham area.

The education service

The Council runs the Rotherham Learning Portal.  This is a website that provides learning resources and information for pupils and teachers in the area.

More information on learning in Rotherham can be found at http://www.rotherham.gov.uk/info/100005/education_and_learning
