Mary Foster
Mary Foster's Pension Plan (Document of the Month, July 2007)
Ref No: 63-B/8
Date: 1657
This document is from the archive collection of the Ravenfield Hall estate, which is part of the Parker Rhodes, Solicitors collection (ref no. 63-B).
It is an agreement between Mary Foster, a farmer's elderly widow from Ravenfield, and her son, Thomas. Under the agreement she assigned Thomas her share of her late husband's goods for £15 and leased the family farm to him for £7 per year, with various conditions attached. Mary may have wanted to hand over the farm to her son, while ensuring she was provided for in her old age.
