Restoration Plans
The Council and the Friends of Clifton Park have successfully raised £4.5m from the Heritage Lottery fund to transform Clifton Park. The development will be a careful balance between new entertainment (amusements, play sports facilities and places to relax), and restoring the Georgian features of the park.
Large Plan showing the proposed improvements.
Clifton Park has changed many times, drawn together by the Walker family in 1783. The house and ground were sold to the Rotherham Corporation in 1891. Throughout the first half of the 20th century a range of features was added to the park:
Main Entrance 1900
Cenotaph 1922
Templeborough Roman remains re-sited behind the Museum area 1925
New Bandstand 1928
Paddling Pool 1939
Memorial Gardens 1948
Memorial Rock Garden 1951
