School terms, school holidays and other closure dates

This page provides information about the school terms and holidays for Rotherham schools for the current and next academic years:

• September 2011 to July 2012 - School term and holiday dates for the current academic year
• September 2012 to July 2013 - School term and holiday dates for the next academic year
• September 2013 to July 2014 - School term and holiday dates for the future academic year
• September 2014 to July 2015 - School term and holiday dates for the future academic year

The school year is made up of 190 days for pupils which are divided into 3 terms: Autumn, Spring and Summer.  Each of these terms is divided into half terms by a half term holiday.

The term dates for each academic year are set in advance.  The school term and holiday dates are now set until July 2015. 

The school term and holiday dates for schools in Rotherham have been set by the local authority.  When we set the term dates we use the Local Government Association's (LGA) proposed school term dates and we work with other local authorities which are close to Rotherham (Barnsley, Doncaster and Sheffield); and groups that represent teaching staff and other staff.

Staff training days (INSET days)

In addition to school holidays, each school organises 5 training and development days for it's own staff.  These are sometimes called INSET days.  These training and development days are decided by the school and are different for each school.

Other closure dates

There may also be other days when schools are closed due to unforeseen circumstances, such as bad weather or when there is a problem at the school.
