Elections - electoral register

Electoral Services are an essential part of the democratic structure of the United Kingdom.

We maintain the electoral register and conduct all elections to the Borough Council, Parish Councils within the Rotherham borough, and the UK and European Parliaments.

We have a duty, which we take very seriously, to ensure that all elections are free, fair and impartial.

We maintain a computerised system for the efficient management of elections and electoral registration. Polling arrangements and polling place boundaries are also continually reviewed.

Results of Polling Destrict Review

The council has concluded its review of polling places and has now published the approved scheme of polling districts and places for the parliamentary constituencies in the Rotherham area.

Electoral Registration Canvass 2011

The annual canvass takes place every year during September, October and November. During this period monthly updates to the register are not issued, instead a new fully revised edition of the electoral register is published on 1 December.

Every household will receive a form showing the names of all those currently registered. Residents must check the details shown and inform us of any changes for the new edition.

Review of polling districts and places

We are required to review parliamentary polling districts and polling places at least once every four years.  This review does not affect parish, borough ward or constituency boundaries and therefore does not affect in any way how you will be represented either locally or in Parliament.  What it may affect is the place where you go to vote. Local Elections

Elections to each of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council's 21 wards and each Parish Council in the Rotherham area took place on Thursday 5 May 2011. The results for the Borough elections can be found on the Election Results page. Parish Council election results can be found on the Rotherham Parish and Town Councils website.

Each year we are required to publish a notice that shows five per cent of the number of local government electors shown in the electoral register for our authority as of 15th February 2011.
