Archives and Local Studies Service

The Archives and Local Studies Service collects, preserves and makes available documents and publications covering all aspects of life in the borough from the earliest times to the present day.

The service is based on the 1st floor of Rotherham Central Library. It is open to everyone, and you don't need to be a member of the library to come and use the resources.

Recently published this is a guide to resources for Family History available at South Yorkshire's archives and local studies services.

This guide will enable family historians with South Yorkshire ancestors to discover just what genealogical sources are available and where they can to be found.

Second hand books for sale

Second hand books are now available for sale in the Archives and Local Studies Service. These books are duplicates and surplus stock.

Please see our opening times page before visiting Records and Archives.

Please note that Archives and Local Studies will be closed from 5.00 p.m., Friday 23rd December and re-open on Monday, 16th January 2012.  From the 16th January we will be offering a limited service, this is to prepare for the relocation to Bailey House.
