Ecclesiastical Parishes
We hold microform or typescript copies of parish registers for most of the Church of England parishes in the Rotherham Council area. The original parish records are deposited mainly at Sheffield and Doncaster Archives. These archives act as diocesan record offices for the diocese of Sheffield. A few collections remain in their parishes.
A few items have been deposited with us as part of estate or solicitors' collections. These include:

- Civil Parishes
Civil Parish Councils were set up in 1894 at the same time as urban and rural councils. They formed a smaller local democratic unit beneath the newly created urban and rural district councils. Their only statutory functions are to maintain the parish churchyard or cemetery and to provide allotments. However they also take on other functions related to their locality, such as monitoring planning applications.
The service holds records for:
- Anston (ref 449-P)
- Brinsworth (ref 457-P)
- Dalton (ref 471-P)
- Harthill (ref 53-P)
- Orgreave (ref 595-P)
- Ravenfield (ref 276-P)
- Thurcroft (ref 509-P)
- Ulley (ref 59-P)
- Wales (ref 527-P)
