Events at Herringthorpe Valley Park

History

Herringthorpe Valley Park is located just over 2 miles east of Rotherham's town centre and covers almost 16 hectares. It is Rotherham's newest park and was officially opened by Alderman Duffield on the 25th March 1974. It sits in a broad valley which was previously farmland.

There are two areas of ancient woodland at the top of the valley that were not farmed due to the land being too steep to cultivate. The character of the park is unique in Rotherham, including many features typical of an urban park, but within an attractive rural setting.

The park offers wonderful views of Rotherham and the surrounding countryside, and is the perfect setting for a pleasant walk. Footpaths extend into neighbouring woodlands that contain a wide variety of wildlife. Other attractions include the colourful playground, bowling greens, tennis courts and multi-use games area (basketball, cricket, and football).

So whether you want to play sports, walk, jog, have fun in the play area, or just relax and enjoy the space and scenery, Herringthorpe Valley Park has something for everyone.

In recent years the Council has worked closely with the Friends of Valley Park to deliver a wide range of improvements within the park. As well as the new facilities such as the MUGA and play area there has also been a new heritage trail and environmental improvements.

Friends of Herringthorpe Valley Park

The Friends of Herringthorpe Valley Park are local volunteers who dedicate their own time helping with development, day to day management of the park and with the delivery of events and activities. If you would like to become involved with the Friends, please contact us.
