History
Rosehill Victoria Park is one of the borough's older urban parks opened in 1901 in honour of Queen Victoria's 1897 diamond jubilee.
Prior to this the park was laid out as private grounds to Rosehill Hall and still retains some historic features. You can still see part of the heated wall which surrounded the garden as well as the ripples in the main parkland area which possibly indicate early farming methods.
Rosehill Hall, built around 1830 by the Firth family, served as a lavish home and stands as a proud feature of the park. It is now fully refurbished and is home to Rawmarsh and Parkgate Partnership Ltd. and is used as a community resource.
At almost 14 hectares, the park is a perfect refuge from today's busy lifestyle and provides a relaxing atmosphere for visitors. With the support of the Friends of Rosehill Park there has been much investment in recent years with the addition of a multi use games area (MUGA), improved footpaths and seating, provision of CCTV cameras and improvement of the bowling area and surrounding fencing. The park also now has a newly refurbished novelty golf course and fantastic tree sculpture designed by local young people showing images of Rotherham's heritage and wildlife.

Whats new?
Good news... the involvement and enthusiasm of young people in Rawmarsh means that a skate and BMX facility for Rawmarsh is now complete.
Groundwork Dearne Valley have been working with the Council and secured funding from a variety of sources including a grant through the Landfill Communities Fund of Waste Recycling Group (WRG) administered by the environmental body WREN. Other funders include Positive Opportunities for Young People (administered by Voluntary Action Rotherham), Rotherham MBC, Wentworth South Area Assembly, Community Cashback (administered by South Yorkshire Criminal Justice Board) and the Brelm's Trust.
After consultation with existing skaters and bmx riders the new park features two inter-linked concrete bowls varying on depth from 1.2m up to 2.1m. The design includes several hips, a roll-over section between the two bowls and roll-in to one side of the entrance. The new facility is sited to the rear of the existing MUGA and tennis courts.

Funding has also been secured to take young people on a trip to The Works in Leeds, free of charge. To brush up your skills or learn new ones with a qualified coach please contact Carole Foster at Groundwork Dearne Valley on 01226 740077 or email carole.foster@groundwork.org.uk
