Safety At Sports Grounds

The Council is the "Certifying Authority" under the Safety at Sports Grounds Act 1975 and the Fire Safety and Safety of Places of Sport Act 1987.

This is with regards to issuing General Safety Certificates, Special Safety Certificates and Regulated Stand Certificates for sports grounds in the Borough, where applicable.

The responsibility for the issuing of the above certificates is delegated to the Director of Housing and Neighbourhoods who chairs and co-ordinates the Safety Advisory Group (S.A.G.). The S.A.G. comprises representatives from the Emergency Services, the Sports Ground Safety Authority, Building Control and Health and Safety as well as representatives from the relevant sports ground(s).

The S.A.G. ensure that the reasonable requirements laid out in the Safety Certificate are monitored and complied with when the sports ground is in use for the specified activities and ensure any developments at the ground follow the Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds (5th ed.) by holding regular meetings and carrying out in-match inspections during the course of the season.
