Street Renaming and Renumbering

streetscene2

On very rare occasions it becomes necessary to rename or renumber a street. This is only done as a last resort when there is confusion over a street name, a group of residents are unhappy with their street name or new properties are built in a street and there is a need to renumber to accommodate the new properties. This will only be done when there is no alternative, and existing residents will be contacted and their views taken into account.

Having identified a street naming issue we will contact the local ward councillor and the parish council to obtain their views and local knowledge. We will then consult the Royal Mail for their position on the issue.

To change a street name we would need to ballot the local residents on the issue. Hopefully there will be 100% support, but we require at least a 2/3rds majority to make the change. This is a very time consuming process and we are only able to progress a couple of these issues at any one time. However if you think you have a street naming issue, please contact us.

Changes of this nature require the residents affected to make changes to all their contact details i.e. domestic bills, notifying DVLC etc. Costs of seeking the advice from a solicitor regarding changes to the property deeds would also need to be taken into account.
