Dog Fouling and Dog Waste Bins
The Rotherham Wardens and the Community Protection Unit in the Council enforce a Dog Control Order in the borough, where people who do not pick up after their dogs can be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £80.00. If this is not paid we will prosecute people for the criminal offence in the Magistrates Court. We deal with dog fouling in a robust way because the parasites in the faeces can cause illness and blindness in Children.
We actively tackle the problems in your communities by patrolling areas where there are high numbers of complaints, patrolling at times when dog fouling is most likely, and conducting educational campaigns in schools and community groups.
At the Area Assemblies the Rotherham Wardens give a regular update of their work, including how we are tackling the problem. On top of this, each complaint location we receive gets a Rotherham Warden visit to ensure there is adequate street and footpath signage to deter irresponsible dog owners.

The Council aims to:
- Remove dog fouling on highway areas within 1 working day of notification
- Empty a dog-waste bin which is overflowing on the highway within 4 hours of notification on working days.
