Sustrans Connect2 Project
The Projects
The project aims to connect communities to the revitalised Chesterfield Canal, the Sheffield Tram and to the Rother Valley.
Rather than working on historic journey patterns, this innovative project builds on the 'success based' approach to the public foot, cycle and bridle paths of South Rotherham, South East Sheffield and North East Derbyshire. This project will utilise new bridges, lost ways, canal paths, disused railway lines and reclamation sites to create a holistic network connecting communities to each other through attractive greenbelt terrain.
Now the hard work begins, a steering group is in place to oversee and facilitate the project. The group will meet bi-annually and 6 monthly updates will be discussed, actions set and reviewed.
It is hoped that the project will be completed by the summer of 2013. Updates will be posted on the website to keep you informed of progress. However, in many ways this date is simply a beginning to building further access onto this project - which will have an impact upon the next generations of local people.
We have two types of project - the Core Route and Aspirational Routes. The Core Route is pivotal to all our aims - we must deliver it before we can open up funding for aspirational routes. The Main projects are shown below.
Main Projects
- The Core Route - Rother Valley Country Park, Killamarsh, and Halfway Tram Stop Route
- Aspirational Route 1 - Wales, Harthill and Cuckoo Way Access for All Hub
- Aspirational Route 2 - The Killamarsh-Todwick Riding Route
- Aspirational Route 3 - Bringing Communities Together - the Colliery Way Extension
- Aspirational Route 4 - The Harthill Reservoir Trails
- Aspirational Route 5 - The Eastern Strategic Route to Shireoaks Trail
See the other pages in this section for a map and other details of these projects.
