Other Rotherham links

Friendship and educational links have been developed between a range of Rotherham organisations and partners across the world.

If you are involved in such a link, please do send us information on what you are doing; we may be able to provide a link to your website from this page and share ideas on good practice!

We also produce a quarterly bulletin which is distributed to all schools and libraries as well as members of the International Links Partners Group. The bulletin aims to promote some of the international work that is taking place in Rotherham and encourage the sharing of good practice.

The latest bulletin is available here:

Aston Makunduchi Partnership

The Aston-Makunduchi Partnership is a strong and healthy educational partnership established in 1989 between Aston School in Rotherham and Makunduchi Secondary School, in Zanzibar, Tanzania. The Partnership was founded to promote genuine partnership between students, teachers and parents in both locations and to compare and contrast similarities and differences in lifestyle, culture, people and environments through education and first-hand shared experiences.

Useful Links

If you are interested in international work, you may find the following links useful:

The Yorkshire and Humber Global Schools Association supports schools to develop a global dimension. The website contains information about available resources and training.

The Development Education Centre in Sheffield can help with developing a global dimension in school, has resources that teaching staff can borrow and runs a Cultural Mentor service and many other projects.

Global Gateway is a website for schools with everything you need to know about international links from getting started, funding information, partner search database and information about the International Schools Award.

Rotherham gained Fair Trade Town status in 2006. For information about Fair Trade, including Fair Trade Fortnight, products, resources and events, take a look at the Fair Trade Foundation's website.

The Mayors for Peace is an Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) composed of cities around the world that have formally expressed support to "Promote the Solidarity of Cities toward the Total Abolition of Nuclear Weapons". This was a programme launched by the former Mayor of Hiroshima in 1982 at a special session of the United Nations. The Mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki called on mayors around the world to sign up to the programme and now more than 2,500 cities have pledged their support. On 4 February 2009 the Council adopted the motion to join the "Mayors for Peace" movement.

The EUROPA website is a good start if you want to find out more about the European Union. It includes a plain English guide to 'Eurojargon', key facts, the history of the EU and an overview of the most important treaties and acts.
