Advice - Evacuation
An evacuation may occur for a number of reasons, including a gas leak, flooding or chemical incident. Dependant on the incident you may be able to return to your property after a few hours, however this could be longer.
- If instructions are issued by the emergency services and/or local authority representatives that evacuation of your premises is advised then respond to instructions.
- Make sure fires are out and turn off gas, water and electricity. Make sure to allow adequate ventilation prior to turning them back on.
- Unplug electrical appliances.
- Gather family and pets together. Plan where to meet in case you are separated.
- Secure your property.
- Use the transport made available.
- Remain calm and leave as quickly as possible.
- Report to the allocated emergency reception centre.
- If you decide to stay with relatives or friends for the duration then please tell the police or a local authority officer. This will save someone hunting for you if they think that you are missing.
