Pretty Villages
Thorpe Salvin
The jewel in the crown, Europe in Bloom Gold Medal Winner. This pretty and floral village is well worth a visit. Don't miss the fabulous two day garden trail, an event for both gardeners and enthusiasts alike.
Thorpe Salvin is also home to Thorpe Salvin Hall, built in 1570 and said to be the inspiration for 'Torquilstone' in the novel 'Ivanhoe' by Sir Walter Scott.
Wentworth
A quaint historic village with two churches and traditional Yorkshire pubs serving Wentworth beer from the local brewery. Wentworth also boasts a popular garden centre occupying land once used as the kitchen garden of Wentworth Woodhouse, the gardens can be seen including the bear pit which still remains (although no bears are kept here!).
Enjoy picturesque walks past local landmarks or simply relax with a visit to the tea rooms.
Laughton en le Morthen
Visit the splendid village church with a beautiful tower and spire soaring 185 feet, making it one of the borough's most visible landmarks, Keep a look out for the remains of the motte and Bailey Castle which dates back to the 600's and was the site of the King Edwin Northumbria's Castles.
Harthill
The attractive village of Harthill is situated between Killamarsh and Thorpe Salvin. Visit the picturesque village of Harthill at it's absolute best during the summer when the village hosts an annual well dressing and carnival in July.
Whiston Manorial Barn
Whiston Manorial Barn is one of the earliest timber framed buildings in Yorkshire and the only building of its type in the North of England. The barn is the oldest example of an agricultural building in the country and is available for private functions.

Pretty Villages Trail
Much of our borough is an area of undiscovered and unspoilt countryside with picturesque villages nestling in the rural landscape. Why not take time to explore and enjoy this little known area? Journey around Todwick, Harthill, Thorpe Salvin, Woodsetts, Glidingwells, Letwell, Firbeck and Brookhouse.
Take a little more time to stop and admire Ravenfield Old Village, a local contender for Britain in Bloom.
Five Churches Walk
A superb walk through rolling lowlands, linking fine churches and unspoilt villages. This 10 mile circular route visits Wales, Harthill, Thorpe Salvin, South Anston and Todwick Churches.
