Local Arts Development and Support Groups

There are many independent organisations supporting artists and arts development in Rotherham. Here are some key local artist and group support organisations. Others can be found on Help in Hand or ArtSearch.

Rotherham Arts

Rotherham Arts (RA) is a charitable organisation, supporting local voluntary arts organisations and artists. Member groups and individuals stage a large number of Arts events and activities across all artforms, ranging from junior operatics to the One Act Play competition.

RA also stages the Brass, Jazz and Folk Festivals at Rotherham Show and helps co-ordinate the activities of all enthusiasts to maintain a lively Rotherham. A list of member organisations and links to their sites can be found on the Rotherham Arts website.

Rotherham Open Arts Renaissance (ROAR)

ROAR was set up in 2005 by a group of professional artists to provide support for artists living or working in Rotherham, to provide a 'one stop shop' for schools, statutory bodies, community groups and businesses wanting to access and employ artists, and to establish a sustainable independent working arts centre in Rotherham. ROAR manages the artists' retail and workshop spaces in Imperial Buildings and the on-line database of local artists, ArtSearch.

Member Groups include Open Minds Theatre Company, On the Road Again Productions, Swamp Circus and Rotherham Diversity and Cultural Group.

Swinton Lock Activity Centre (SLAC)

SLAC is a community based arts education and activity centre, running a range of arts and crafts activities for children and adults throughout the year. SLAC also runs an Artists' Network and Studio space and offers exhibition space to local artists and crafts people to display and sell their work in its Gallery. For details contact:

Get Sorted Academy of Music (GS)

Get Sorted has provided quality music and arts tuition for over fifteen years for the people of Rotherham, and is a highly recognised charity providing a wide range of services including 1-1 tuition in guitar, bass, drums, vocal coaching, brass, woodwind and strings as well as providing a range of music clubs for children and young people.  Clubs include: dance, fit ball, art and crafts, performing arts, singing together, song writing, animation, rapping, junior jam band, film making etc. For details contact:

Rotherham Cultural Group (RCG)

RDCG supports the work of artists working across cultural backgrounds, and showcases arts from all cultures at the Diversity Festival at Rotherham Show as well as other events throughout the year by member groups, including Chinese New Year, the Holi Festival and Black History Month.

The Diversity Festival has raised funds from Arts Council England and local sponsors to create a really exciting show with two days of exciting music and dance, arts workshops and community stalls. To get involved with the Diversity Festival and future events, contact the chair:

Rotherham Culture Company

Rotherham Culture Company is an events management and fundraising organisation  devloping and staging events in Rotherham Town Centre, inlcuding the large annual event, Rotherham Open Arts Festival.  For details contact:
