Arts in Rotherham - Visual and Fine Arts and Crafts

The Rotherham Open Exhibition demonstrates every year that Rotherham is teeming with people with a passion for painting, sculpture and crafts - so where are you all?

We know there are many more arts groups out there, but in the meantime these are groups who have confirmed their detais with us. We hope you find this information useful. If you know of new groups or changes in any of these details, please let us know. You may also find it useful to search for a group you are looking for the the Help in Hand on-line database of local groups and resources, held by Rotherham E-Library Services.

The Crafts Council is a useful source of information and sometimes funding for craft activities and artists. They also support the Craft Club supporting championing craft in schools and other educational centres. Visit Craft Club to see their inspirational film and share resources.

Arthike

  • Details: Led by Adele Jackson and Robin Widdowson, artists or creative practitioners who like hiking and the great outdoors are welcome to join Art Hike. The aims are to make new connections, encourage collaborations and perhaps create temporary artworks along the way.

Brinsworth Art Group

  • Details: A local group of 20 people of mixed ability who try all sorts of mediums. They also have a monthly subject for those who wish to take part, and one demo/workshop every two months if artists are available.  The fees are £14 a quarter to cover the room rent.
  • Meeting times: every Monday between 2pm and 4 pm.

The Rotherham Photographic Society

  • Details: Meetings, workshops, talks, exhibtions and competions.
  • Meeting times: Tuesdays, 7.30pm - 9.15pm
  • Meeting venue: In the photography department in the RCAT Eastwood Building, Eastwood Lane.

The Rotherham Society of Artists

  • Details: The spring 2012  programme includes demonstrations and workshops on March 2nd , 16th and 30th, April 13th and 27th, and May 11th. There wil be monthly summer meetings from April to September at various venues of interest, and the group holds exhibitions of work and organise social activities.
  • Fees: Yearly membership is £25 for access to all demonstrations and workshops. Non-members £5 per visit for demonstrations, full-time students £2 for any session or £10 for year.
  • Meeting times:on alternate Friday 7 to 9 p.m. from September to April.
  • Meeting venue; the Unity Centre, St Leonard's ROad, Rotherham S65 1PD

Rockingham Lacemakers

  • Details: Tuition is given in a variety of techniques. all ages welcome, children must be accompanied by a parent  
  • Meeting Times: Monday afternoons 1.15pm - 3.15pm term time and Wednesdays 7.00pm - 9.00 term time.
  • Venue: Trinity Church Rooms, Chapel Street, Wath-upon-Dearne.

 Wales Art Group

  • Details: Founded in 2003 the group has a programme of activities including projects, gallery/critique evenings and demonstrations from visiting professional artists.
  • Meeting times: Thursday evenings 7.00pm - 9.00pm.
  • Meeting venue: Kiveton Park and Wales Village Hall

Life model John currently models regularly for Broomhall Life drawing and Kelham Island Art Co-op in Sheffield and isa available for classes in Rotheram for ₤30 for two hours. Interested parties should email applevegan1@yahoo.com
