Support for Local Artists and Businesses

Rotherham MBC Community Arts Service

The Community Arts Service exists to support artists and to increase participation in the arts through activities, events and information. Please call us on 01709 823636 or email community.arts@rotherham.gov.uk if you would like to talk to us about your plans or for support and advice, or be adde to our email information service, Emuse.

Community Arts works in partnership with ROAR to host Creative Networks! -  quarterly gatherings of artists, both amateur and professional, community arts Groups, arts based and creative businesses, voluntary arts groups and anyone with an interest in the arts in Rotherham.

Information we receive about opporutnties for lcoal artist for employment,  to exhibit, or about training or other CPD opportunities is published on the Arts opportunities training and events page.

Creative Networks!

The meetings are an opportunity to meet others with similar interests and issues, and they are usually themed with information requested by previous meetings.  

Arts and Means - free Advice and Expertise on Arts Funding and Support If you are a local artist trying to get your business off the ground or an artist or group looking for funding for an arts project, an Arts Advice & Expertise event might be the place where you could find our what support is out there to help you. for more inforamtion about future events or support from  Community Arts, call 01709 823636 or 07825 928590, email community.arts@rotherham.gov.uk 

Local artist led organisations

There are sereral organisations in Rotherham who offer practical support and advice, chief of which are:

Swinton Lock Activity Centre (SLAC)

SLAC is a community based arts education and activity centre, running a range of arts and crafts activities. SLAC also runs an Artists' Network and studio space and offers exhibition space to local artists and crafts people to display and sell their work in its Gallery. For details contact:

Open Minds Theatre Company 

Open Minds supports artists in all artforms, through employment, training and placing artists, acting as an arts agent. For details contact:

Rotherham Open Arts Renaissance (ROAR)

ROAR  supports artists living or working in Rotherham,  providing a 'one stop shop' for schools, statutory bodies, community groups and businesses wanting to access and employ artists.

ROAR manages the artists' retail and workshop spaces in Imperial Buildings and the on-line database of local artists, ArtSearch, and is currently developing a Town Centre space in Rotherham with studio, workshop and rehearsal space. For details contact:
