Boston Castle

Boston Castle is a square two storied building standing on one of the highest points in Rotherham. Built as a shooting lodge by the Earl of Effingham, it is said to mark his opposition to the British attempts to crush the American Revolution in 1775.

The Earl resigned his commission rather than going with his regiment to America. Boston Castle is named after the Boston Tea Party and legend relates that the Earl forbade tea being drunk inside its walls. Access is via Boston Castle Grove.
