Walker Cannon

An original Walker cannon, made 200 years ago, is on permanent display outside the Town Hall on Moorgate Street, Rotherham.

The Walker family were responsible for making Rotherham a major industrial area. This iron and steel manufacturing family produced lots of cannon which were cast between the 1770s until the end of the Napoleonic Wars. Most of the cannon seen today on HMS Victory were made in Rotherham.
