Local development framework

The Local Development Framework will provide a long-term development strategy for Rotherham, setting out policies and proposals for new housing, shopping and employment, and how you travel around and about the borough.

The Local Development Framework will eventually replace the existing Unitary Development Plan and will help to streamline the local planning process and promote a proactive & positive approach to managing development. It will help the Council decide on planning applications and promote Rotherham's continued regeneration whilst protecting and enhancing the natural environment.

Core Strategy Revised Options

More than 6,000 comments on the Revised Options for Rotherham's core strategy - the borough's development plan - are now published in a Final Feedback Report.

The report covers the key planning issues raised in the consultation last summer on three options to meet Rotherham's potential housing and employment needs up to 2026, and also includes the Council's general response in a summary table.  Detailed responses to each individual comment are published via the LDF Consultation Portal

The report and the council's response to individual comments are for information only and are not published for consultation.

Joint Waste Plan

Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham Councils are working together to prepare the Joint Waste Plan.  This is a development plan document that will set out our planning strategy for managing all types of waste, across the three boroughs, up to 2026.  Once adopted it will form part of each borough's Local Development Framework.

We are now consulting until 9th August 2010, on the pre-publication document.  This document sets out the proposed aims and policies that will be used to assess individual waste proposals and identifies suitable sites for large-scale waste management facilities.

The consultation document and supporting documents can be viewed and downloaded from each Council's website. Joint Waste Plan

We have produced a short information film on the planning system, the film outlines how we guide development in the borough, what the LDF will cover and how it links to the Community Strategy. DVD copies of the film are available free of charge. You can play or download the film from the link below.
