Sites and Policies

The two key parts of the Local Development Framework (LDF) are the Core Strategy and a supporting Sites and Policies document.

Sites and Policies Issues and Options

The latest version of the Sites and Policies is an "Issues and Options" document that we consulted on during the summer of 2011.

The role of the Sites and Policies document is to identify specific development sites for each settlement to meet the Core Strategy targets, mainly for new housing and employment land. In doing so, it will define the precise policy boundary for Rotherham's Green Belt. It also will include policies to guide determination of planning applications and implementation of the development sites. These decisions will be informed by a series of environmental designations, such as local nature conservation sites.

It is important that the Sites and Policies Issues and Options should be read in conjunction with the Draft Core Strategy as all LDF documents must conform with the Core Strategy. Decisions on the broader strategy for new development in the Borough made by the Core Strategy cannot be changed later by the Sites and Policies document.

Comments made on the recent consultation will be made available on our LDF Consultation Portal in due course as they are processed.

The Local Development Scheme gives the anticipated dates for the next stages in the process of drawing up and adopting the LDF, including further public consultation.

You can see all the current potential development sites that we consulted on over the summer of 2011 on an interactive map.

The Sites and Policies Issues and Options document and all other associated documents from our recent consultation are available as links from this page.
