Local Brownfield Strategy

The re-use of brownfield sites, or 'previously developed land' can contribute towards sustainable development patterns by promoting the efficient use of land, maximising the regeneration benefits of development and minimising urban sprawl and encroachment into the countryside.

The Council, with funding through the Homes and Communities Agency, has produced a Local Brownfield Strategy. This provides improved intelligence on the availability and deliverability of brownfield sites, how to address the obstacles to their development, and will help to prioritise and target future interventions. The document will provide an important evidence base in taking forward Rotherham 's Local Development Framework.

Produced for the Council by consultants GVA, the Local Brownfield Strategy provides an assessment of national, regional and local economic markets and provides more detailed information on and assessment of 14 brownfield sites across Rotherham which have potential to provide important development opportunities in the future.
