Collection & Disposal Contractual Arrangements

The Council's in-house teams provide collection services for:

• General household waste
• Green waste
• Blue bay paper recycling
• Blue box mixed recyclables
• Household bulky items
• Household clinical waste
• Commercial waste

The Council is in partnership with neighbouring councils in Barnsley and Doncaster (BDR Waste Partnership). Together we have developed contractual arrangements with several waste management companies. They provide local facilities for recycling, treating or disposing of all the waste we collect.

Waste Recycling Group manages all Household Waste Recycling Centres in Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster under a joint arrangement. Around 70% of all waste delivered to the centres is recycled. The remainder is sent to landfill.

These arrangements will last upto 2014/15. At that time we anticipate that a new facility to deal with the treatment of general leftover waste will come on-stream. This new facility will be funded from a central government Private Finance Initiative (PFI) for the BDR Waste Partnership.
