Free Bus Pass (Zero Fare Pass)
The responsibility for transporting children to and from school is that of their parents/carers.
However, some children may be entitled to free transport to and from school in the form of a free bus pass (zero fare pass) if they meet certain criteria:
Pupils aged 5-7 years
Pupils attending their nearest appropriate qualifying school (or where an alternative appropriate school has been determined by the Council) will be issued with a zero fare pass where the distance between home and school is more than 2 miles.
Pupils aged 8-16 years
Pupils attending their nearest appropriate qualifying school (or where an alternative appropriate school has been determined by the Council) will be issued with a zero fare pass where the distance between home and school is more than 3 miles.
A zero fare pass may also be issued to a pupil attending their nearest appropriate qualifying school where the route from home to school is not considered available to walk.
For more detailed information regarding eligibility for a free bus pass, including information regarding exceptions and pupils attending faith schools please see the Home to School Transport Policy.
For information on pupils 16 and over, please see our Post 16 page.
