Squatters and unauthorised occupants

Most of the Council's empty properties are usually waiting to have repairs done or in the process of being re-let or re-decorated. However, we manage over 23,000 properties, so there may be times when we are unaware of any suspicious occupants.

The laws regarding squatters and unauthorised occupants are complicated, so it is not simply a case of a fast eviction. However we do take these issues very seriously, and to deal with the situation as quickly as possible we need your help.

If you believe there are squatters in a property, please contact us as soon as possible. We will treat any information you provide us with the strictest confidence.
