Housing - community safety

Your neighbourhood and community

We work closely with Council tenants and leaseholders and a number of agencies to tackle issues such as anti-social behaviour on Council estates and to help keep Council neighbourhoods clean and communities safe.

Our aim is to support our diverse communities, improve the quality of life witihin neighbourhoods and to increase pride in our communities.

Working closely with our contractors Willmott Dixon and Morrison, we aim to improve Council estates through initiatives such as the Borough Environmental Training Scheme (BETS) and the Safer Homes Project.

Other intitiatives include estate walkabouts and the Gardening Scheme and we are part of the Safer Neighbourhood Teams.

Anti-social behaviour

Everyone has the right to enjoy peace and quiet in their own home, and to feel safe and secure in the area where they live. Anti-social behaviour, whether it takes the form of burglary or a barking dog, can cause real misery to people simply getting on with their daily lives.

Housing champions

Housing champions across the borough are responsible for looking after the homes of Council tenants and leaseholders, helping to sort out any tenancy issues they may have, including anti-social behaviour, noise, and untidy gardens.

Each housing champion is responsible for looking after a number of Council homes in one particular area. Find out more about your local housing champion.
